KETJE VADROUILLE, The Traveling Canvas

The Traveling Canvas 'Ketje Vadrouille' is a collective artistic project which was launched in 2010.  The project involves a traveling canvas being hosted, painted and photographed by participants worldwide. 

The Traveling Canvas has covered a total distance of more than 120 000 km (75 000 miles) involving almost 300 participants.

Ketje Vadrouille is a collective artistic project. 

It aims to involve a group of people in the creative process of a painting, and to stimulate interaction between the painting which is taking shape with the help of each participant.

Project participation is possible by invitation through Facebook.

The goal is to let the participants paint and photograph the canvas all along its journey. Participants play several roles. They are active creators and at the same time observers.

Interaction between the painting and participants is recorded in the virtual world which allows the group to observe the progress of the project over time.

The journey  and destination of the painting is undetermined, however, its journey wouldn't exist without the participants contribution.

The painting travels from one participant to another.  It is enriched by information provided by the group which forms a pseudo-living archive.

In the digital world the canvas has an identity, just like an individual.  In the concrete world it's a painting continuously changing by each participants stroke of  brush.

Ketje Vadrouille est un projet artistique collectif.

Il vise à impliquer un goupe de personnes dans le procéssus de l'oeuvre et de stimuler une interactivité entre l'oeuvre qui prend forme et l'observateur .

Le but est de faire peindre et photographier la toile par les participants qui le désirent. Le groupe de participants se forme sur invitation par le réseau social Facebook. La toile nommé Ketje Vadrouille voyage d'un participant à l'autre et subit un changement grâce à chaque intervention artistique individuelle des participants.  La toile a une identité dans le monde virtuel qui s'enrichit par les informations fournies par les internautes qui forme une archive pseudo-vivante

Ketje Vadrouille is een collectief artistiek project.

Dit project beoogt een groep mensen te betrekken in het creatieve proces van een schilderij, en de interactie tussen de schilderkunst die vorm krijgt met de hulp van elke deelnemer te stimuleren.

Project deelname is mogelijk door een uitnodiging via Facebook.  Het doel is de canvas door een groep mensen te laten schilderen en te fotografiëren. De deelnemers spelen meerdere rollen. Ze zijn actief en creatief en tegelijkertijd waarnemers. Interactie tussen het schilderij en de deelnemers is geregistreerd in de virtuele wereld die het mogelijk maakt om de voortgang van het project over de hele periode door de hele groep te kunnen waarnemen.  Reis en bestemming van het schilderij zijn onbekend maar wel afhankelijk van de deelnemers.  Zonder hen zou de reis echter niet plaatvinden.  In werkelijkheid krijgt het schilderij vorm door elke deelnemer’s borstelstreek.  In de virtuele wereld heeft het een identiteit, verrijkt met informatie van de Internet-gebruikers dat een pseudo-levend archief vormt.
